Anniversary surprises you can pull off on a weeknight
In short
Your anniversary falls on a Wednesday and your partner gets home at seven. Here is how to plan a surprise that still feels special.
Anniversaries rarely land on a Saturday. If yours falls midweek, you have a few hours between work and dinner. That is enough for a good surprise if you plan the timing first and the decoration second.
Work backwards from the door
Decide what time your partner will walk in. Then work back: the room should be ready 30 minutes before that, the decorator needs one to two hours, and they need a way in. Write the timeline down and share it with whoever is setting up.
Decorate one room properly
On a weeknight, one room done well beats a whole house done halfway. The bedroom works best for a romantic setup: petals on the bed, balloons on the ceiling with ribbons hanging down, LED candles along the floor and warm fairy lights.
Add something personal
Printed photos on a string, a board with the date you met, or a short note on the bed make a standard setup feel like yours. Send photos to your decorator a day ahead so they can be printed.
Keep dinner simple
Order in, or set a small table in the same room. Leaving the house after the reveal undoes some of the effect.
Hotel option
If home is not possible, book a hotel room for the evening. Share the hotel name and check-in time with your decorator so they can coordinate with the front desk and finish before you arrive.
